The Friends of Kloofendal fully endorses Johannesburg's Public open spaces by-laws.

The amphitheater and stone-walled stage at Kloofendal is a lovely area for concerts and other events.  These are set within the Reserve and users of the amphitheater area are in a privileged situation within the Reserve.  The Friends of Kloofendal are striving to see that this area is used with due respect to the natural environment and the neighbourhood around the Reserve.  We also believe that proper use of the Amphitheater area should, as far as is reasonably possible, contain a strong element of environmental education.

We have unfortunately seen some "special events" that have not respected the conditions of use and have abused the privileged situation of being in the Reserve.   The Friends of Kloofendal would like to work together with organizers of "special events" to assist in making them as environmentally friendly and educational as is reasonably possible.

MTN Private party / Concert  on 19th November & party on 2nd December

We heard by chance that there was a planned closure of access to the entire Nature Reserve for this event.  Yes, the plan was to close off access to over 100 Hectare of public space (the Nature Reserve) for a private function in the 2 Ha Amphitheatre.
Clr. Carl Mann kindly facilitated a meeting at which a compromise was reached.  Entrance to the Reserve through the main gate was partially closed for the general public with FroK’s Wild Flower and Frog events carrying on almost as normal.  Thanks to Aldert and Mart Kotze for allowing us to use their house for Warren's Schmidt's illustrated talk on Frogs.

The event itself was very noisy, as was a party held on 2nd December.  Complaints about the noise are still being investigated by JCP.

Please, MTN and other organisations that use the Amphitheatre, show respect to the Nature Reserve and to the people that enjoy its quiet ambiance work with us in future.

Toyota Jacaranda Pops concert 22nd October 2011

Many people remember Kloofendal from the large concerts that were held some years ago and stopped after neighbours complained that the concerts were "getting out of hand".

Johannesburg City Parks agreed to this concert in the expectation that it will provide enjoyment and value with minimum impact on the Reserve and on the neighbourhood.

The Friends of Kloofendal cautiously support this venture and are grateful to Jacaranda FM for promoting our work and activities.

(Actually, Jacaranda made no mention of FroK or the Reserve during the show.)

Please leave you comments and impressions of this event on the Friends of Kloofendal Facebook page.
