Monarch, Leah & a Pirate.  (Actually African Monarch and Pirate butterflies with Leah holding a common Garden Acraea.)

We go out with FroK nets and sample jars and catch butterflies (and other little critters).  The event usually starts at 9:00 or 10:00 as the butterflies like it a little warmer than birds do.  Grant identifies and talks about them.  We look and admire them and are careful to release them unhurt.

About your guide

Grant Egen has put together the wonderful collection of butterflies in our display centre.  His knowledge of butterflies and birds is quite outstanding.  He  communicates frequently with Herman Stauder, our first butterfly and moth guide and the major collector and descriptor of Geometridae (looper) moths.
