Birds

You will see and/or hear around 45 bird species in summer and somewhat fewer in winter during one of your birding outings.

The Chamberlain guide to Birding Gauteng writes: "The Kloofendal Nature Reserve is (still) considered a goldmine by birders, offering such gems as Malachite Sunbird, Wailing Cisticola and breeding Black Sparrowhawks".

Grant Egen

Grant is much in demand by bird clubs and Kruger Park Honorary Rangers as a bird guide.  He can often be seen at Kloofendal in the early hours of the morning.

Grant also takes our Butterfly and Nocturnal creatures walks.

Grant is a bird ringer authorised by the Animal Demography Unit (ADU, previous the Avian Demography Unit) at UCT and occasionally does bird ringing at Kloofendal.  Grant submits all data from the ringing to the UDU.

New brochure on all birds found in Kloofendal with a distribution map and brief description where the more common birds are found in the reserve available at R10 from Grant.
